Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Managing Partner, the Financial Planner is responsible for delivering comprehensive, goal‑based financial planning and wealth management services to Cain Watters & Associates clients. This role serves as a primary advisor to clients, providing integrated guidance across financial planning, investment management, tax strategy, business planning, and long‑term wealth considerations. The Financial Planner supports clients in achieving personal and professional financial goals while contributing to a consistent, high‑quality wealth management experience aligned with CWA’s fiduciary and tax‑optimized advisory philosophy.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Develop and maintain comprehensive, goal‑based financial plans that align with each client’s personal, business, and long‑term wealth objectives.

  2. Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by delivering proactive financial, investment, and planning guidance across all phases of the client relationship.

  3. Review and oversee client investment portfolios, coordinating with investment leadership and partners on asset allocation, performance monitoring, and portfolio adjustments.

  4. Integrate financial planning recommendations with tax strategy, business advisory insights, estate planning considerations, and retirement planning.

  5. Maintain consistent, high‑touch client relationships through regular meetings, proactive communication, and personalized advice.

  6. Ensure financial planning and wealth management activities align with fiduciary standards, firm policies, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Meet with clients on a regular basis to review, analyze, and update financial goals, objectives, and progress toward long‑term outcomes.

  2. Prepare and review cash flow analyses, retirement projections, and long‑term financial forecasts.

  3. Analyze client business and personal financial statements, with specific understanding of dental practice operations, to identify planning opportunities and risks.

  4. Review investment allocations, performance, and risk exposure, and collaborate with investment leadership on portfolio recommendations.

  5. Provide guidance on qualified retirement plans, funding strategies, and benefit structures aligned with client goals.

  6. Review insurance and estate planning strategies and coordinate with external professionals to support comprehensive wealth planning.

  7. Act as an escalation point for more complex client planning matters involving investment strategy, tax planning, business transitions, or multi‑generational wealth considerations.

  8. Champion client education by explaining portfolio performance, planning recommendations, and market conditions in a clear and transparent manner.

  9. Establish and follow firm standards for financial planning quality, documentation, and client engagement.

  10. Collaborate with internal teams, including tax, accounting, investment, and practice transition professionals, to deliver integrated client solutions.

  11. Support client retention and organic growth by building strong relationships and encouraging referrals through exceptional service.

Job requirements

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or related field

  • CPA, CFP or CFA license in good standing

  • Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) experience preferred

  • Deep expertise in comprehensive financial planning, investment management, and tax-aware wealth strategies preferred

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, client-friendly guidance

  • Demonstrated service‑oriented approach to client relationships, with a strong commitment to delivering a high‑quality, personalized client experience

 

Travel

Travel to firm‑sponsored meetings and seminars is required, including the CWA Annual Meeting, Planner Retreat, and other designated events. Additional travel may be required as needed.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  The ability to work remotely is allowed based on management’s approval.

 

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role; however, it may require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. 

 

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is an executive level position servicing the primary clients of CWA. As such, it is not a standard workday or week. The Financial Planner is expected to put the needs of client service first to make sure the clients receive the level of service necessary for them to reach their financial goals.
